Equality of opportunity for everyone is essential for businesses to thrive. For 2019 International Woman’s Day, Donna Modeste shares what #balanceforbetter means to her.
Introduce yourself for us
I’m Donna, I’ve worked in the Housing and Construction industry for over 7 years. I’m currently the Senior Commercial Administrator for Maintenance South.
How long have you been in your current role?
I have been with Wates on the Commercial Team for the Guinness contract since November 2018
What brought you to Wates?
I was a Commercial Administrator for a mid-sized Contractor and the role of Senior Administrator was the next natural progression. I think Wates is a great company to work for and they really do show their family values.
What advice would you give to women entering the industry?
I would say be yourself and don’t be shy to get your point across.
Who are your role models?
Stephen Covey the author of the 7 habits of highly effective people. His book really helped to develop my organisational skills, which I’ve found are so important to have in this industry.
Maria Hatzistefanis, the founder of ‘Rodial’ is also another role model of mine. She broke into the Beauty industry with little knowledge but with constant hard work and consistency, she has taken the industry by storm.
This year the theme of International Women’s Day is Balance for Better. What does this mean for you personally?
The theme Balance for Better is really important, we cannot argue that men and women are the same because we’re not however both genders bring different viewpoints and skills sets, and when we work together as a team, it can produce really successful results rather than a one sided view.
