UK construction industry’s growing skills shortage

Our regional director in the North West, Sarah Cooke, writes in Place North West about the UK construction industry’s growing skills shortage and discusses how we are working to ensure we remove any potential barriers to entry for any candidate.

A recent study by the Civil Engineering Contractors Association found that 75% of contractors had issues recruiting skilled workers. In this article and the accompanying video Sarah unpacks what we are doing to ensure our recruitment focus looks not just at students, but also individuals in later life who might be looking for a change of career.

The article references two female colleagues who have recently joined Wates, having begun their careers in other sectors Raegan Moss, a former prison officer, now a section manager; and Natalie Milton, an assistant quantity surveyor, who originally worked in the events industry.
