The new South Hampstead High School in London, was built by Wates Construction to accommodate 720 students aged 11 to 18 years.
- 'Very Good' BREEAM Rating
- CCS Silver Award
The £20m project saw the construction of a large school extension consisting of; the demolition of existing sports facilities; a deep basement dig to accommodate an underground sports hall and facilities; a seven storey concrete framed building with brick cladding and large areas of curtain walling; a steel-frame reconstruction of a building to provide two new floors of classrooms and conversion of an existing sports hall into a recital space.
The result is a modern school building that blends original features with new-build extensions.
Through frequent and open dialogue, the Wates team were able to ensure their site activity would cease during exam periods to avoid any potential noise disruption, and that restrictions on deliveries on the constrained site were appropriate.
