Wates Residential started building the 157-home development at the former Dudley Guest Hospital in November 2015, marking a new phase for the historic site. The development, which is being delivered in partnership with Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council and the Homes and Communities Agency, consists of both affordable homes and a range of properties for sale on the open market.

The site has a rich history stretching back to 1849, originally being used for almshouses to support local miners, before being re-purposed for the building of the new community hospital in 1871. The hospital, named to recognise the contributions of local industrialist Joseph Guest, served the people of Dudley for well over a century, before finally closing its doors in 2007.

A total of 127 new homes are being built on the new development, which is named Butler’s Crescent to reference A.T. Butler, the renowned Black Country architect who designed the original hospital building. Alongside the newly built homes, our team are creating 30 additional properties through the re-modelling of the existing hospital administration block.

Butler’s Crescent includes a range of property types to suit everybody, including two-bed apartments and two, three and four-bed family houses. The development mix links seamlessly with the existing local community and the delivery of 39 muchneeded new affordable homes for Dudley MBC will help to address local housing need.
