Wates Construction continues to expand its Home Counties presence with the appointment of Stuart Cleworth as Operations Director in a move to strategically enhance its project delivery across the East of England.
Stuart will be responsible for a portfolio of Wates Construction’s projects across the East of England, maintaining the company’s high standards in timely delivery, health, safety and quality. In particular, he will oversee Wates’ delivery of Public Health England’s new public health science campus and headquarters in Harlow, Essex, following the contractor’s appointment to two key elements of the £400m capital spend programme.
Joining Wates from Kier, Stuart boasts over 20 years of industry knowledge which began following completion of a BSc Hons in Construction Management. His career to-date has seen him hold senior operations roles at both Kier and Interserve for five and four and a half years respectively.
Past projects include the Sanger Sequencing Building at the Wellcome Genome Campus in Hinxton, Cambridge, and the redevelopment of Parnell House, a mixed use scheme in Victoria, London.
The appointment marks a significant step in Wates Construction’s strategy to identify new business opportunities across the region as well as continuously improving client experience and strengthening delivery of its current project base. This currently includes the construction of new squadron headquarters at RAF Marham in King’s Lynn and the creation of the new multi-million pound food and health research centre, the Quadram Institute in Norwich.
“Wates is a renowned and trusted contractor in the East of England with an impressive project portfolio, reputation for quality and a steadfast commitment to the communities in which it works. I look forward to building on this as the business seeks to identify new opportunities to grow and diversify its project portfolio. I’m fortunate that my career has provided me with a wealth of knowledge and experience and it is a privilege to bring this to Wates and its highly skilled and hard working team.”
Ian Vickers, Managing Director, Wates Construction Home Counties, added:
“Stuart’s knowledge and capabilities make him an excellent addition to complement our East of England team. His appointment is an important step in our growth across the region as we continue to seek new market opportunities while generating a local economic and social impact wherever we work. I look forward to seeing the fruits of Stuarts labour in the coming months and offer him a very warm welcome to Wates.”
