Hannah Taylor is a Business Admin Apprentice at Wates Residential, recruited through our Early Careers programme.
“As an admin apprentice my role includes general administration tasks such as travel bookings, electronic filing and dealing with emails from colleagues/ clients. A large part of my job also includes updating the internal intranet, web page and social media sites such as Twitter and Yammer with news stories relevant to the business.
What do you like about your job?
“One of the things I like the most about my job is that I get the chance to communicate with many different people including colleagues and clients. This gives me an insight into many different areas of the company as I get to do a range of jobs for my colleagues in different sectors of the business.
“The opportunities that I have been given through this apprenticeship have been incredible. I cannot wait to carry on my journey at Wates Residential and I would recommend this apprenticeship to anyone.
What’s your working day like?
“When I first get to the office at 9 a.m. I respond to any emails that I may have, and I also check our company social media accounts. After this I set my priorities for the day and carry out tasks in order of importance, working around any meetings or site visits that I have planned for the day.
What skills do you need in your job?
“I think that the most valuable skill that you can have in my job is good communication. A lot of tasks include emailing or speaking on the phone with people, especially people that you haven’t met before. Being confident and polite through your speech is important when talking to people in a professional setting.
“After completing my GCSE’s I studied Law and English Language A-Levels, however I soon realised that I wasn’t suited to classroom learning so started looking into a suitable apprenticeship as I wanted to learn in a hands on environment.
Where do you see yourself in ten years’ time?
“In 10 years time I hope to have gained a higher education qualification in either business management or marketing in order to enhance my career.”
