Marta Vuletic - SHE Advisor, Wates Residential Developments South

Introduce yourself for us

My name is Marta Vuletic and I’m a Health & Safety Advisor for Wates Residential.

How long have you been in your current role?

Four months.

What brought you to Wates?

Having passed the Abbey Road site every day as a local resident, I was impressed by the high health and safety standards in place. This really inspired me to want to work for Wates and I contacted Community Investment Manager, Michelle McSorley using her details advertised on the site noticeboard. She introduced me to my now line-manager Martin Glover and I am grateful to both of them for giving me the opportunity to both gain work experience over a three month period and then ultimately offering me a permanent position within the Health and Safety team.

What advice would you give to women entering the industry?

Be yourself and be fearless. Cast out any prejudice that construction is an industry just for men. At Wates, everyone is equal. However, the business’ drive to increase the representation of women at all levels can only be a good thing as it will bring new perspectives and ways of working.

Who are your role models?

My professional role model is my line manager, Martin Glover. As SHE Manager for Wates Residential, he is truly casting a shadow as a great leader and has invested a lot of time and patience in mentoring me, including recommending relevant books to read and sharing his immense knowledge. My grandmother is another role model of mine. She is one of the strongest and most persistent people that I have ever met and is a true representation that hard work and persistence always pays off.

This year the theme of International Women’s Day is Balance for Better. What does this mean for you personally?

Achieving a good work-life balance to help avoid stress achieve positive mental health.
