Bournemouth jobseekers looking to kick-start a career in construction, were given a helping hand by undertaking a ‘Building Futures’ training scheme with Wates Construction and Bournemouth Borough Council.
The programme, which was attended by 11 over 19s from the area, was delivered alongside the construction of St Peter’s School, and offered individuals the opportunity to grow their construction skills and improve career prospects.
Throughout the duration of the course, candidates took part in trade taster sessions at Beaufort Community Centre, which involved carpentry, painting and decorating skills training.
Activities also included a site visit to St Peter’s School, and a tour of the Salisbury Glass Centre.
Wates also carried out mock interviews and invited participants to assist in a community initiative, which saw the contractor paint the internal corridors of the community centre.
