St John Fisher Catholic High School, Wigan - Wates

St John Fisher Catholic High School

Project overview

St John Fisher Catholic High School is a 1,050-place mixed comprehensive faith school for 11-16 year olds serving the town of Wigan. The school is being fully redeveloped owing to the age and condition of its existing estate, with a new three-storey teaching block and sports hall being provided, in addition to new multi-use games areas, new car parking and hard and soft landscaping works to improve access across the site.

The new school will bring together the upper and lower schools, currently in two separate sites, and accommodate 900 pupils and 285 sixth-form students.

The school will have state-of-the-art facilities, with several sports pitches, including an all-weather pitch, a chapel, and a drama studio. The local community will be able to use the sports facilities and library outside of school.

The project is being delivered with sustainability embedded in the design which will be Net Zero Carbon in Operation (NZCiO). Delivery of the new scheme will support the school’s drive to raise the aspirations of its students and wider community, build on its significant sporting successes and identify the school as the first choice for a Catholic education in Wigan.

Procured via the Department for Education’s (DfE’s) Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) Framework, one of a batch of six schools that Wates Construction was awarded in January 2020.
