Wates Smartspace has a long-standing relationship with Marks & Spencer (M&S) and has been working in partnership with the retailer for over 14 years on a range of fit-out and refurbishment projects. During this period, Wates has delivered in excess of 500 projects across the UK and Ireland.

Wates Smartspace’s successful and safe delivery of all schemes to an excellent standard has resulted in M&S extending this Framework agreement until the end of 2016.

In 2015, Wates Smartspace worked in collaboration with M&S to deliver nine Simply Food stores on time, within budget and with an average CCS score of 42. A further 29 existing M&S stores were refurbished, enabling the customer to maximise the value of its existing outlets and improve the brand experience for customers. Works included upgrading all internal and external signage in line with the new M&S corporate brand, in addition to modernising the womenswear and menswear departments.

The outcome

Our delivery team works closely with M&S to manage each project – from the initial negotiation of specifications, through to close oversight of detailed designs and the fit-out of each store. This approach enables the seamless transition between each element of the programme, with on-site delivery typically completing in just seven weeks.

"The Smartspace team has worked in close partnership with us throughout, forming a great relationship with all stakeholders on the M&S Simply Foods Framework. They have implemented and successfully delivered front end design and commercial processes that have enabled the onsite period to be delivered on time and to the highest quality."
