Littleborough Primary School - Wates

Littleborough Primary School

Project overview

The redevelopment of Littleborough Community Primary School and Nursery, in Greater Manchester is funded by the Department for Education as part of their School Rebuilding Programme (SRP). The purpose of this funding programme is to improve the condition of existing school buildings.

The new school building will be two-storeys high, set within a landscaped setting with outdoor play spaces, and there will be a new dedicated car park.  It will provide 14 new classrooms, a library, a new sports/assembly hall, Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and a 420-place primary school providing 60 places for each year group along with a 26-place nursery.

During the build process the school will remain fully open and operational. Once the new buildings are complete the older school buildings will be demolished. The scheme will commence in September, however early works commenced in July.

Procured via the Department for Education’s (DfE’s) Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) Framework, it is one of a batch of six schools that Wates Construction was awarded in January 2020.

“We were delighted to secure the funding for Littleborough Primary to be rebuilt, it’s a really exciting time for the school community. I’m really pleased to see sustainability at the forefront of the building’s design and operation and the commitment Wates is making to sustainable building methods during construction. Now that the work is starting you can sense the buzz around school from staff and pupils, it’s going to be wonderful for them and for many more generations to come.”
