Kate Cornwell - Bid Director, Wates Living Space

Introduce yourself for us

I’m Kate Cornwell, Bid Centre Director for Wates Living Space, a National Role, responsible for work winning and managing the Work Winning Team.

How long have you been in your current role?

I started with Wates in Jan, 2017 (so nearly two years…!)

What brought you to Wates?

I have had contacts at Wates for a number of years. Wates have a great reputation, great people (who seem to stay for a long time, which is always a good sign) and for me, Wates were the natural choice and are head and shoulders above its competitors.

What advice would you give to women entering the industry?

Take that step, enter the industry with no preconceptions, work hard and your efforts will be recognised. There are some fantastic opportunities within the industry and you can make a difference.

Who are your role models?

Nelson Mandela – A strong leader of people, who had a clear vision for the future.

Tell us something unusual about you

I’m currently learning Spanish.

What changes would you like to see in 100 years’ time?

A resolution to the Housing and Homelessness Crisis – not through the building of more houses necessarily, but through looking at alternative housing models e.g. Community Led Housing; New forms of Temporary Housing; Intergenerational Living Schemes.
