The objective of our Operational Excellence (OpEx) team is to spread best practice across business units. They aim to deliver efficiency ideas year on year, ensuring waste is reduced and cost-savings are found in order to keep us as competitive in the marketplace as possible. It is a key element of our ability to offer innovative practices and fresh ideas into the market.

The team is responsible for approving and implementing new policy and best practice across all our businesses. They act as a sounding board for new ideas and develop the best elements into initiatives which are then embedded into our business practice. They are also tasked with benchmarking Wates against the rest of the industry and ensuring we keep ahead of best practice.

A key project for 2011 is the elimination of duplication and processes that don't add value. This includes integrating a new, innovative Bespoke Handover document on all projects and implementing SharePoint to improve knowledge sharing across the group and reduce duplication by having one access point for all documentation.
