employability
Wates is committed to supporting local communities through raising aspiration and skills, creating local job opportunities and providing employees with opportunities to give something back to the communities in which we live and work.
Our pioneering Building Futures programme targets adult NEETs (not in employment, education or training) who face barriers to employment. It is a two week accredited Construction vocational training programme delivered by our employees with national strategic partners. 2011 saw Building Futures reach a milestone target of our 500th participant and to date more than 50% have moved into employment or training.
Wates supports over 40 apprentices per year through our 'Setting Out' programme. During 2011, we have focussed on supporting apprenticeships through business administration, design and QS.
In addition, we are committed to supporting Social Enterprises into our supply chain to deliver services, skills or goods across our business. During 2011 we have traded with more than 20 Social Enterprises nationally to the value of £850,000.
