Zakar Hussain, Business Administration Apprentice
Zakar Hussain, Business Administration Apprentice
I've been an apprentice at Wates for 4 months now and have found it really exciting. Since I've been here I have learnt something new every day and I have a great team behind me which is so important for my career development.
I am working for the LLCP (LEP) which delivers the Luton BSF projects. At first I was very nervous about joining the team, however they have offered so much support in helping me settle in.
My role covers such a variety of things. I do a lot of the general paperwork, meet new people and have even managed to visit some of the sites in Luton which has been so interesting. I am from Luton so it is great for me to witness first hand the regeneration and community work that Wates are doing in Luton, as it is helping the community of which I am a part. I feel the opportunity Wates have given me shows that they care about the people of Luton.
Before I got the job at Wates, I had just left school and didn't know what I wanted to do for my career. Luckily I was picked to represent England in the World Cup Tour in boxing, so I was on tour for 6 months with that, and although my ambition is to get to the 2012 Olympics and be an ambassador for the sport - it is a short lived career so it is very important that I have another career too.
As part of my apprenticeship, Wates are supporting me on Level 2 Business Administration course, so not only am I getting valuable experience with Wates, but also a qualification to back it up.
I am so grateful for the opportunity that Wates are giving me and everyday feel that I am getting 100% support from them.
