Partners in value: VE teamwork saves 13 per cent
Value engineering was a key focus on this landmark construction project, which provides modern, flexible and efficient workspace for the London Borough of Greenwich, as well as a public library, café/bar and other ancillary local services such as a business centre, with a GIFA of some 19,400m².
- Due to the budgetary constraints, we worked hard to reduce the overall build cost while preserving both the architect’s vision and the client’s intent for the building.
- We brought together the client, the design team and the PQS in a workshop to work through all parties’ savings suggestions, brainstorm and generate a value engineering (VE) schedule.
- We engaged our supply chain to investigate where savings could be made and/or value created in their own specialist areas.Working with cost consultants, we assigned a budget value to each of the 350 items in the resulting VE Schedule. We then held another workshop with all parties, enabling the team to review each item and to either accept or reject it.
Thanks to this comprehensive and coordinated value management procedure, we were able to save the client 13 per cent.
