Above all, it's about people

Whitebeck Court

Whitebeck Court is a 16 storey tower block in the heart of Charlestown, North Manchester that was standing empty for more than three years. Wates Living Space carried out its comprehensive refurbishment to bring it back to life as 91 extra care apartments.

The block boasts a ‘sky lounge’ on the top floor of the building, and is now extended on the ground floor to provide a day centre, ‘The Eric Hobin Day Centre’, that offers day care services to residents and the local community, and the building is set within enclosed safe gardens designed to be suitable for extra care residents.

Managed by Northwards Housing, the scheme is owned by Manchester City Council and was funded by the Council and the Department of Health.

Other attributes include; emergency call provision, assistive technology installation, energy efficient glazing and lighting, full insulation works, photovoltaic panels, disabled access, plus a waste and recycling centre.

The project was injury free, on time and on budget, with over 95% resident satisfaction.
