Waitrose, York
Initially chosen by AXA to convert an old MFI store into a shell, Wates Retail was also selected to deliver the fit-out stage of the project for Waitrose. Being the main contractor for both halves of the programme allowed Wates Retail to overlap parts of the project and deliver the project several weeks early. This was the shortest fit-out programme to date and enabled Waitrose to start trading earlier than expected.
- 90% of waste generated was diverted from landfill
- A concrete crusher on site enabled all hardcore waste to be re-used on site as backfill for the extensive excavation works
- A new design of storm water attenuation tank generated both cost and installation time savings without compromising quality
The project comprised of the shell, ground works (car park resurface, store underground drainage, roof strengthening and replacement, new canopy install and new substation build) and internal fit-out. The client was kept up to date throughout the project with daily photographs.
