Waitrose, East Sheen
Waitrose East Sheen is an existing trading supermarket on one of London’s red routes. This build was split into 3 phases to ensure minimum disruption to the stores trading. The extension necessitates the relocation of the existing loading bay and route for goods from the warehouse to the sales floor loading bay and route for goods from the warehouse to the sales floor.
Reducing impact on the store was paramount, this was achieved by:
Communication - Pre and During Construction
- Liaised with the store team at every stage of phasing and programme development. This resulted in compromising our usual working hours to allow 4 hour slots for the store deliveries to take place at times convenient to Waitrose.
- Conducted daily handover meetings with the store team to update them on the previous nights work.
- Held weekly ‘minuted’ meetings to look ahead at and plan for any forthcoming hurdles and discuss any issues and resolve before they became a problem.
Joined Up Approach
- Phasing plans were developed with the store team enabling elements of the build to be brought forward for example the new male toilets negating the requirement for temporary facilities in the service yard.
- Developing an understanding of the stores needs and drivers; for example we developed the programme to ensure the seasonal goods area remained intact until after Easter.
- Minimising disruption to back of house warehousing through meticulous planning and relocation of services, for example; building the new hot food prep room, temporarily using it as a bake off room in order to close the old bake off room and demolish it to allow the new plant room to be built in it’s place.
