Waitrose Bracknell - Live Site

June

Major development on the Waitrose site in May has seen completion of the foundations to the store, allowing the steel works to start on the 13th June.

The site team visited Binfield Primary School to discuss offering assistance in transforming their nature reserve to its former glory and arranging an open day for the school pupils to visit site and learn the basics of construction. There are also discussions going on with regards to burying a time capsule filled with the pupils’ letters to the future.

Last month, the site team sent out an invitation to local businesses to partake in partnerships with the project. The Classic Sandwich and Savoury Co now provide the site with freshly made sandwiches and other produce at breakfast and lunch, and Kall Kwik Bracknell have provided the site with much needed A0 size prints.

On Monday 13th June the site started works on the sheet piled wall. These sheets are driven into the ground using a Telescopic Leader Rig.

Planned Work for June:

  • Steel frame erection
  • Installation of the sheet piled wall
  • Continuation of surface and foul water drainage runs
  • Installation of the attenuation tank

May

As part of the first phase of the regeneration of Bracknell town centre, Wates Retail are constructing a brand new Waitrose.

The design of the building went through strict design compliance in order to achieve the desired aspiration of Waitrose to be one of the greenest Waitrose stores to date. Environmental initiatives that will be introduced into Waitrose Bracknell are:

  • Green roof – with 80 different plant types
  • Accoya timber cladding to the first floor
  • Stack bonded panels of brickwork
  • Special glulam timber columns and light poles to car park
  • Green landscape design

For the team from Wates Retail, this will be the second Waitrose ‘new build’ project after last year successfully building and fitting out the first Waitrose on the Isle of Wight.
