

University of Liverpool, Central Teaching Laboratory
Wates Construction was awarded the contract to provide this new £13m state-of-the-art science teaching facility in early 2010, further strengthening our relationship with the University of Liverpool.
The new undergraduate building will transform the University's science teaching enabling an improved interaction between students of the different sciences.
Project description
- The building is located on the 'Green', in the heart of the University Science Teaching Campus.
- It is constructed adjacent to the existing Undergraduate Lecture Theatre with access points on the ground and first floor.
- The foot print of the building is organised on a north-south axis. Two large floor rectangular plates are arranged in parallel, and at the centre a four storey atrium.
Features include:
- High specification of internal fittings
- MAARS panelled walling system and large expanse of atrium roof lighting creating a 'wow' factor upon entering the building.
- High concentration of laboratory fittings including 73 no. fume cupboards.
- Sustainable features include rain water harvesting and a green walling system
- Target of BREEAM excellent.
