Skipton Building Society HML

Wates Construction has recently completed the new 850 capacity headquarters for HMP, a subsidiary of Skipton Building Society.

The three storey 100,000sq ft building developed on a Greenfield site has achieved a BREEAM rating of 'Very Good' based upon its green credentials.

Designed to minimise its environmental impact, the new HQ incorporates numerous energy saving features including bio-mass boilers, rainwater harvesting, solar hot water panels, passive chilled beams, extensive solar shading and photovoltaic cells.

We were appointed at RIBA stage C/D and worked very closely with the client's design team to progress the scheme to detailed design, and took design liability.  The entire fabric of the building including the roof and full M&E package were part of our design proposals.

Major sub-contract packages included: M&E; Steelwork and upper floors; Curtain walling & windows; Groundworks.

Highlights of the project include

  • Outstanding Health and Safety results with zero accidents and 367 working days without an incident, despite over 1500 total visitors to the site.
  • Considerate Constructors Silver Award - testament to the great lengths out team went to fully engage with the surrounding community
