Riverside Dene
Riverside Dene is an ambitious redevelopment supported by Newcastle City Council, Bridging Newcastle Gateshead, New Deal for Communities and Your Homes Newcastle, in partnership with Wates Living Space and Gentoo.
In 2008 Wates Living Space was appointed as the construction partner for Riverside Dene regeneration to undertake the construction element of the regeneration programme which entails tower blocks and the surrounding area in the Elswick area in the West End of Newcastle upon Tyne.
The work involves full internal and external refurbishment beyond Decent Homes standards with new kitchens, bathrooms, mechanical and electrical installations and external envelope upgrades with new windows, external insulated render facades and new roof coverings. There is extensive external works which involve major service diversions, new road infrastructure, car parking, play areas, footpaths, hard and soft landscaping to the whole estate.
The works also involve the regeneration of an existing shopping centre, low level housing and the installation of a Biomass District Heating System that will supply hot water and heating to all the buildings on the estate and will go a great way towards to the aim of the estate becoming a Carbon Neutral Estate.
