Ripon Crescent, Lostock
Ripon Crescent is a mixed tenure development of affordable housing and apartments along with 24 properties for private sale by Wates Living Space.
The site had previously been home to de-generated flats which had attracted anti-social behaviour and were demolished two years ago. The new housing has brought a fresh approach to the area, making it a desirable choice, close to local shopping and motorway links.
Construction of the properties was timber frame with brick outer skin built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, incorporating Secure by Design criteria and utilising new technology in re-heat systems and solar heating.
Local labour was encouraged and up to 10 apprentices were employed on the scheme during the project period. A successful open event brought local school links, and a fantastic Building Futures scheme was held in 2009, giving local unemployed and disadvantaged people an opportunity to experience the construction industry, learn new skills and find new employment.
In addition to the new build homes was car parks, landscaping and a new park. The whole scheme has achieved a Considerate Constructors score of 36.5 out of 40, making it a very successful project.
