Above all, it's about people

Penrith Way, Eastbourne

In 2009 Wates purchased this greenfield 4 acre site on the urban edge of Eastbourne. The site was not allocated for residential development and it had never been promoted previously. However following a comprehensive engagement strategy Wates gained the support of both the District and Parish Council for a scheme of 38 homes. Full planning permission was granted in 2010.

• Planning consent on an unallocated site achieved within 24 months of purchase

• 38 new homes including 14 affordable homes for local people

• Extensive consultation with local stakeholders helped inform the detailed proposals

• Site sold to Taylor Wimpey in 2010
