North Liverpool Academy, Liverpool
Flying start: The power of a good partnership
Created to replace two comprehensive schools, this strikingly designed new academy with its spectacular three storey centerpiece provides an inspiring facility for its pupils, staff and the community.
Inevitably a politically sensitive project, we worked proactively to ensure successful and prompt delivery by embracing both pre-construction and post construction activities.
We took advantage of a deferred start date due to Village Green Objections to develop an informal partnership with the design team. By involving our specialist supply chain at an early stage, we created significant benefits in value engineering and design procurement.
Our team has been instrumental in producing cost-effective design solutions to all aspects of this project, particularly the foundations, substructure, structural steel frame, roof and wall cladding. The client benefitted in construction cost savings of £1.4million with no change to aesthetics or concept design, plus a 10 week reduction in the original tender programme.
