Efficiency and expertise: Saving the project by saving costs

Project: Construction of new sixth-form centre on existing school site

Duration: 76 weeks

Value: £7m

Completed while the rest of the school remained fully operational, this purpose built sixth form centre demonstrates our ability to design and deliver first class teaching facilities. It offers 3,270m2 GIFA over three floors including new science labs, an ICT suite, general teaching and workshop areas, and a lecture theatre.

Due to budget issues that threatened funding approval, we painstakingly worked with the school, the design team and the supply chain to cut costs – eventually saving almost £1m without compromising the quality and feel of the building.

We assisted the school with their FF&E Budget, using our management expertise to identify savings, and our buying power and supply chain to get best value.

We used our new Handover Pack to start the handover process early, walking the school through the procedures in advance. We videoed our demonstration of the new building’s services, adding a DVD visual aid to the written documentation.

We helped with the move itself, assisting with method statements, shifting bulky equipment, and generally being on hand when needed.
