Duration: Phase 1 83 weeks, phase 2 30 weeks
- Project delivered on programme, allowing school to complete AV/IT installation, furniture installation and staff training and to open on-time.
- Delivered complex, innovative design 100% snag-free prior to occupancy
- No lost days due to injury or accident. Eradication of low level wiring and service runs, all armoured cables cast into slabs, with sub-distribution hung from ceilings created a safe, clean, clear site ensuring no slips, trips, falls.
- Hugely satisfied customer with ‘most complete Academy to date’ at handover stage
- Delivered over £200,000 worth of savings through innovative construction techniques.
- Pioneering sustainable construction – biomass boilers, ground source heat pumps, rainwater harvesting and photovoltaic lighting contributing to reduction in overall life cycle cost for Langley Trust
- Built in options for the Academy to become “more sustainable” as it ages, such as a reed bed for grey water recycling.
- Uses the sustainability of the building as a learning tool for the students – including having the plant room, ducts, and pipes exposed so children could see how energy is used; different methods of water recycling and water usage reduction used in the building, to offer opportunities for comparison.

The quality of the work has been excellent and I hope that Wates will now go forward to secure many, many more academies…I must say seeing the kids there, using the building makes the whole project worthwhile. The all seem really happy and so they should be!
