Customer: John Lewis Partnership
Architect: Wates Design
Quantity Surveyor: EC Harris
Structural Engineer: Hurst Pierce & Malcolm
Services: CSA
Value: 21m
Project Period: 42 weeks
Located in the centre of Leicester itself this brand new, RIBA award winning building emulates one of John Lewis’s early patterned designs from the 1920’s.
- Delivered on time after a 32 week fit out programme.
- The new John Lewis store consists of four floors, with an overall floor space of 269,000 sq feet with a trading area of 179,000 sq foot.
- Initially the design was 10 weeks behind programme, but Wates managed to overcome the fundamental design issues by re-sequencing various areas of works, therefore mitigating any potential for the programme to over-run.
- There were 7 lifts and 6 new escalators installed along with 5 crane lifts to get boilers, air conditioning plant and generators that sit upon a new 100 tonne purpose made stillage, undertaken without obstructing the busy traffic flow around the city centre.
- During the project, at its busiest the team were managing 303 operatives from 34 different sub-contractors and trades whilst also maintaining relationships with the main developer and the Cinema fit out team.
- 83% of all waste materials were recycled, supporting the John Lewis waste policy as well as our Target Zero objectives
