Influencing Housing at Harrogate 2010
Wates Living Space were delighted to attend the CIH Annual Conference and Exhibition in Harrogate again this year.
The overarching theme for the conference was “Bringing Housing Together” and all sessions led to the creation of the Housing Pact, a statement of what the sector can deliver with the necessary support from Government.
The Housing Pact is the second part of the “Houseproud” campaign, of which Wates Living Space are key partners alongside the CIH and Ocean Media and was given to the new Housing Minister, Grant Shapps prior to him addressing the conference.
As always our stand was well attended and we were delighted to welcome our key clients along to discuss current and future requirements.
Paul Drechsler, Chairman and Chief Executive of the Wates Group took part in one of the key plenary sessions entitled “How are we going to build the homes we need” alongside panel members Richard McCarthy, CLG, Sir Bob Kerslake, HCA and Piers Williamson, The Housing Finance. The session saw a high level debate around how we can address the issue of providing new homes and all feedback was included in the Housing Pact.
Steve Trusler, Strategy Director also hosted a workshop entitled “Positively Impacting on Local Communities” where we highlighted our work with the BITC looking at how communities can benefit from Housing Associations working with private sector businesses. Louise Hyde, Building Futures Manager also presented on our own employability project “Building Futures”
Finally Steve Trusler was invited to a high profile lunch with the new housing minister Grant Shapps where Steve was able to hear the minister’s view on the changing housing agenda as well as discuss how we as a business can assist with future housing delivery.
