Above all, it's about people

Guildford Road, Woking

In 2006, working in partnership with the landowner Connolly Crowther & Haufbauer, Wates Developments secured planning permission for a major mixed-use development within Woking town centre. The 18 storey landmark building received positive local support with no objections to the planning application following extensive local consultation.

• Planning delivered locally with no objections

• Positive accolades from Woking Borough Council commending community engagement strategy

• Zero affordable housing negotiated on viability grounds

• Wates secured the sale of the site into a joint venture on behalf of the landowner with Barratt Homes

• Scheme provides for 446 residential homes, 50,000 sqft of office space and 14,000 sqft of retail

“Wates Developments’ commitment to public consultation in the projects pursued in Woking has been exemplary. Engagement of local people in the design and layout of schemes is essential in helping people appreciate the contribution new development can make in achievement of a more sustainable local community.”
Ray Morgan, Chief Executive , Woking Borough Council
