European Commission
Wates Interiors has completed the refurbishment and restoration of the former Conservative headquarters in Smith Square, London, for the European Union (EU).
- The space acts as the joint premises for the Representation of the European Commission and the European Parliament Information Office in the UK and houses 70 staff as well as offering a base for British and European MEPs.
- Wates Interiors beat eight competitors to secure the £5m project.
- The team transformed the building structurally, removing several internal walls to change the layout from its ‘rabbit warren’ network of corridors into a fresh, modern working environment.
- Works included: A modern ground floor public exhibition area, auditorium conference suite, catering facilities, new staircase and roof terrace, high security, cellular and open plan areas, feature break out areas, green roof and photovoltaics.
