The Wates Retail Team successfully completed the £8million extension to the DHL distribution centre in Cannock, delighting the customer by ensuring a flawless delivery of the project, demonstrating the team’s committed efforts to 100% customer satisfaction by completing the project one week earlier than scheduled! .Huge efforts were made by the team to ensure excellence in H&S standards in a live operating distribution centre.

Wates Retail also completed the construction of two extensions to the live DHL/Unilever fully automated distribution centre in Cannock. The project consists of a 31m high 12,000 sq ft extension to an existing live distribution centre. The works included foundations, steel frame, cladding, M&E installation, racking, storage retrieval machines and conveyors.

In addition to the extension to the existing DHL distribution centre, Wates Retail reached a significant milestone as Unilever, DHL and the team held a topping out ceremony at 31 meters, the highest point of the structural steelwork.

The building envelope was completed in June 2011 a week early where Wates Retail handed over the installation of the racking and automated storage retrieval machines to Dematic.

Community spirit was certainly in full swing at DHL Cannock. The team and client participated in a charity bike ride starting from DHL in Doncaster, cycling 86.4 miles across the Peak District. The 12 cyclists arrived at DHL Cannock with an average time of 10 hours, crying ‘no more hills!’. £3000 was raised which was spilt equally between MacMillan and Shelter. A team achievement between both companies.
