Chipping Sodbury School, South Gloucestershire
Completed in July 2010, this £3million project consisted of the construction of a new sports hall and all weather pitches for Chipping Sodbury School.
The main challenge faced throughout was carrying out works in a fully operational school environment. Our team maintained minimum disruption, kept in close communication with the school, and ensured any disruptive works were carried out in school holidays.
Although a traditional project, our team was keen to assist the client and design team in identifying benefits to the project, including:
- Use of soil stabilisation under the all weather pitch, reducing the amount of material moved off and onto site, whilst providing programme improvements;
- Bringing Lafarge to the table, working with Wates, the designers and our dry lining specialist to rationalise some of the partition details and specification, providing cost benefits;
- Identifying an alternative toilet cubicle supplier, allowing an identical specification at a lower cost
- Changing the specification for the fencing to the All Weather Pitch, providing a better product for the same price.
A further challenge on the project was the execution of the work on time, whilst maintaining the highest safety standards and impacting positively on the school and surrounding community. Understanding the school’s requirements and concerns right from the outset played a large part in successfully fulfilling these goals.
Local employment was a key success factor on this project, and we were able to secure 75% of our supply chain from within a 30 mile radius of the project, whilst 50% were within 10 miles of the site.
