Beechwood / Arbour Vale Schools, Slough
Two in one: New schools pool first-class facilities
Part of the Slough PFI, this project includes two new-build schools in a single two-storey building: Beechwood, a secondary school; and Arbour Vale, a special needs school and residential unit for children with autism.
- The works were carried out in three phases: construction of the new
- Building on the sports fields of the existing school; demolition of old buildings; and creation of new sports pitches.
- Built around an internal courtyard and surrounded by soft landscaping, the combined building includes a Sport England-compliant sports hall, 25m swimming pool, hydrotherapy and splash pools, dance and drama studios, performance space, library, community entrance and areas, dining rooms and classrooms.
- Numerous specialist features were involved, including hoists for
- Special needs pupils, a complex BMS, security with CCTV over IP, and extensive IT integration with the client.
- Worked very closely with the school and parents throughout,
- Assigning a dedicated liaison officer who attended daily meetings.
- Arranged student and staff visits during construction, and an open
- Evening for parents.
- To ensure minimum disruption and maximum safety, we employed a full time logistics manager to manage deliveries and safety plans for the supply chain.
- Managed the move into the new facility
