Above all, it's about people

Andy Minshull, Plasterer

Father of five, Andy Minshull had been unemployed for a year when he was offered a place on Wates Building Futures programme in Manchester in April 2009. Andy spent two weeks with Wates Living Space and the Greater Manchester Skills Centre, trying his hand at a number of construction trades, such as plastering, bricklaying, painting and decorating, plumbing and electrics. He also studied health and safety and subsequently attained a CSCS card. (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).

At the end of the Building Futures course, Andy was chosen to take part in a 13 week further training programme hosted by Wates and our local preferred supply chain (Intermediate Labour Market Scheme) “Following this course, I knew I wanted to be a plasterer,” said Andy. “Mike Underwood plasterers took me on and I’m now on my way to becoming fully qualified. I am really grateful to those at Wates who picked me for the course.
