99 Kensington High Street, London W8
Style central: Sony Music’s supercool HQ
Sony Music’s new Kensington HQ always had to be a world-class showpiece, demonstrating creativity, style and flair – and finished to the highest professional standards – while carefully negotiating listed building requirements.
The bold scheme features two large atria, which form part of an inspiring show space for artists and events; a bridged walkway; stylish restaurant; reception area and new offices for such demanding occupants as talent spotter Simon Cowell, and Jed Dougherty of ‘The Brits’ fame.
The architect’s vision of ‘contemporary rustic’ juxtaposes reclaimed wooden floorboards and rafted ceilings with contemporary glass and steel structures and industrial exposed services. Innovative lighting brings everything together and creates mood.
The high concept required stringent delivery against the brief and careful design co-ordination behind the scenes. We worked very closely with a knowledgeable client with clear expectations, solving the inevitable challenges along the way in an open and pragmatic manner, and delivering a truly stunning result.
