10 Eastbourne Terrace, London W2
Renewable energy: Stock block reborn as sustainable exemplar
The renovation of 10 Eastbourne Terrace has transformed a 1950s stock office block into a modern, energy efficient office building.
- The building now has 10 per cent renewable energy and an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating due to improvements to the internal quality of the space and other ecological and waste management procedures.
- New ground source heating and cooling from 18 boreholes contribute to 40 per cent energy savings for heating and cooling.
- A travel plan as part of the planning stage, reduced car parking spaces, allowing the rear to be landscaped, enhancing the environment for office occupiers and residential neighbours alike.
- A fully glazed screen with high performance coatings and a matrix of fritting maximises daylight penetration, substantially reducing the need for artificial lighting without transmitting unwanted solar heat.
- In all areas of the building the high quality of materials and natural daylight demonstrates the effectiveness of the building as a successful workplace.
