Wates expands to establish office presence in Liverpool

2 September, 2010

Wates Construction is bucking the ongoing economic trend and defying industry uncertainty by expanding its North West operations to Liverpool.

The contactor has opened an office on Mount Pleasant in the heart of the city’s knowledge quarter.

Wates has historically worked on a number of high profile projects in the city including Liverpool John Moores University’s Art and Design Academy, the University of Liverpool’s Sydney Jones Library, and more recently the North Liverpool Academy. The company is also currently building the new £19.5m Mount Pleasant Campus for LJMU and the £13m Central Teaching Laboratory for the University of Liverpool.

John Shannon, Wates business unit director in the North West said: “The office provides us with a real base to support our growing client base in Liverpool and demonstrates our long-term commitment to the city at a time when it really matters. We know the importance of continually striving to elevate our performance in order to exceed the expectations of our customers; regardless of the economic climate. Wates has a strong balance sheet, a solid reputation and we are here for the long term.”

The expansion comes on the back of Wates’ raft of award wins, including being named Contractor of the Year by Building Magazine for a second consecutive year, achieving Platinum status in the Business in the Community (BiTC) Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index and securing a national industry Quality Award for its business improvement efforts amidst the recession.
