Wates Construction score four in Yorkshire
18 January, 2010
Leeds-based Wates Construction is celebrating success after securing a sought-after place on four different build frameworks.
The national contractor will now be eligible for substantial building projects across Yorkshire through Partnerships for Schools (PfS), YORbuild, the University of Bradford and one to be revealed imminently.
PfS is responsible for the management and delivery of the government’s capital investment programmes into schools. Wates is one of 15 companies that have been appointed as a panel member to the PfS contractors framework and is one of only 9 that have been appointed for both the North and South sectors. The total value of the framework is approximately £4bn over a four year period, £500m of which is expected to be spent in the next five months.
YORbuild was established to offer an efficient approach to the procurement of public sector construction projects and will see Wates eligible to bid for build and refurbishment projects worth £1.2bn in total over the next four years. Wates is one of the most prominent contractors on the framework; eligible for projects from £10m upwards across all four sub-regions and for projects worth £3.5m to £10m in three sub-regions.
Finally, on the University of Bradford small works framework, Wates is just one of three contractors eligible for building projects ranging between £1 and £3 million. The total value of the framework is estimated to be £35m over a three year term, with the option to extend for a further year.
Wates is also awaiting the formal announcement of its appointment to another substantial build framework in the North and Midlands which is expected imminently.
Dave Price, Wates regional manager, said: “These successes demonstrate the hard work of our Yorkshire team and the strength of the relationships we continue to build across the region. These are valuable frameworks that amount to a substantial amount of building work and will provide a significant boost to the region’s construction industry. We look forward to working with partners to deliver on our promise of providing high quality and cost-effective build programmes.”
