Wates Construction North West sponsor 'Manchester Be Proud' Awards

17 December, 2010

Wates Construction North West recently sponsored the ‘Manchester’s Got Talent’ category in the City Council’s Manchester Be Proud Awards. The awards recognise those community heroes and the brilliant difference they make.

Manchester’s Got Talent encourages others in the community to participate in any form of art, drama, photography, music or dance. There were eleven nominations in the category and the overall winner was local artist Anna Smith.

Anna is a key member of the Friends of Platt Fields, and inspires them with her infectious energy, creativity and her ability to attract, engage with, inspire and lead volunteers. Seven years ago she went along as a young artist with an interest in using art to support the environment, but she has since brightened up the whole park with beautiful signboards, and has undertaken projects linking wildlife, nature and creativity. As well as securing grants and funding for activities and projects, Anna encourages volunteers to come along and get involved. Working with both young and old she has produced a number of stunning artworks in celebration of the park’s centenary, as well as a huge flock of lanterns, modelled on the swans in the park.

Business Unit Director John Shannon, is shown presenting Anna with her award at the Be Proud Awards Dinner held at Manchester Town Hall on the 10th of December 2010.
