26 July, 2010
Wates Construction has appointed Stephen Beechey as its Group Investment Director to oversee its existing and future involvement in project financed and private public partner schemes.
In this newly created role, Stephen will have responsibility for supporting business units across Wates in the running and development of privately financed project solutions ranging from traditional private finance and PPP models of procurement. In addition, he will be tasked with investigating new potential project development and financing models for future use.
Dave Smith, Wates Group Chief Operating Officer said; ‘The market for privately financed projects has changed significantly and we believe they will continue to evolve in the years ahead. Stephen brings to Wates a new array of skills developed over 10 years working in a number of senior private finance and development roles which will be of great benefit across our businesses. His appointment further demonstrates Wates leadership in the education sector and our commitment to delivering the best education environments possible. We wish him great success in this important new role.’
Stephen Beechey commented, ‘Wates has a strong financial platform and has developed an enviable track record in privately financed solutions over recent years from which it can build in the future to encompass new areas and business opportunities.
‘The combination of Wates strong regional presence through its existing operations, the localism agenda being encouraged by the new Coalition Government, our track record of successfully working with communities, and applying our family-owned values, provides a great potential recipe for success in delivering innovative, private public solutions.
Prior to joining Wates, Stephen was Head of Education at Laing O’Rourke responsible for leading the Group’s development in that sector and held senior roles at Jarvis Accommodation Services and Carillion.
