Wates and North Liverpool Academy go global to help children in Mumbai

Wates Construction has donated £3,000 to enable North Liverpool Academy to support disadvantaged children in Mumbai. 

The contractor held a charity football tournament in partnership with the school to raise money for Muktangan, an education programme which aims to provide inclusive schooling for economically disadvantaged communities by training local people and employing them as teachers.

Wates continues to work closely with North Liverpool Academy following the completion of the school’s new £29.7m facility on Heyworth Street in Everton last year. The striking Jaguar door-handle inspired building was the result of a two-year complex construction programme by Wates.

The donation to Muktangan is the latest in a series of fundraising activities Wates has delivered to support North Liverpool Academy and the surrounding community. Earlier this year the contractor provided £50,000 for the provision of community sports changing facilities.

The former project team from Wates visited North Liverpool Academy last week to hand over the donation.

We developed a very strong partnership with the school during our time here and I am pleased to see that continue beyond the building process. We are passionate about the communities in which we work and creating links with social enterprises.”

 Wates has a proven track record within the education sector in Liverpool, having successfully completed projects for the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU). With its current projects in the city such as the recently awarded £19.5m contract to build the new Faculty for Business and Law for LJMU and the Central Teaching Labs for The University of Liverpool; Wates has opened a new office in the heart of the Knowledge Quarter.
