Roma FC score football funding from Wates Construction
1 October, 2010
Norris Green community football club Roma FC continued their foray into the 2010/2011 season on Saturday with renewed vigour after securing a financial lifeline from local contractor, Wates Construction.
The contractor has provided sponsorship of £1,000 to enable the club to continue its long and successful history within the Liverpool County Premier League.
The funding will enable the club to remain at it’s home on Scargreen Avenue in Norris Green for the remaining season and it has also provided the players with a brand new kit in the renowned sky blue and claret colours.
Wates Construction, based on Mount Pleasant in Liverpool, is currently building the new Faculty of Business and Law and Faculty of Media Arts and Social Science for Liverpool John Moores University as well as the new Central Teaching Laboratory for the University of Liverpool. The sponsorship has been provided as part of Wates’ commitment to making a tangible difference to the communties in which it works.
Peter Backhouse Commercial manager for Wates Construction in the North West, said: “We made this donation as a gesture of support for a deprived neighbourhood that will really benefit from our help. This is a fantastic football club with a very rich history and we’re delighted that with our help they can continue to promote the importance of a sporting ethos for the people of Norris Green.”
Roma FC Manager, Stuart Daly, added: “For over 40 years Roma FC has strived to give the people of Norris Green the opportunity to play football and it would have been devastating if we were unable to continue because of a lack of funding. On behalf of all the players, I’d like to send my thanks to Wates Construction for their support at this crucial time. For a company such as this to be interested in our community team in the current economic climate is fantastic. They’ve really helped us out.”
Roma FC was established in 1968, named after Royal Oak Muirhead Avenue which was the club’s base for several years.
