Riverside Dene secures another four awards wins
2 June, 2011
The £36m regeneration of Cruddas Park in Newcastle’s west has picked up four more awards, following its transformation and renaming as Riverside Dene.
Constructing Excellence in the North East rewarded the project for maintaining an impeccable health and safety record throughout construction and it was highly commended for the collaborative efforts taken by all the partners and for delivering a sustainable legacy. It was also highly commended in the category of Project of the Year.
The regeneration of the Riverside Dene estate has been underpinned by the dramatic refurbishment of five 1960s tower blocks into 383 one and two bedroom apartments, which will be completed in July.
The awards were presented to construction company Wates Living Space, together with Your Homes Newcastle, Newcastle City Council, and their collective client representative, Hall and Partners at the Newcastle Marriot Gosforth Park Hotel on Friday (13th May). Additional project partners, Gentoo Architects, CK21 Consultants LLP and DTA Consulting Engineers were also present.
This latest raft of wins has resulted in five awards for Riverside Dene in two months, followings its naming as Best Affordable Housing Development in the North by the Local Authority Building Control Organisation.
Joanne Jamieson, Business Unit Director of Wates Living Space in the North East, commented: “We are very proud to be able to add these four awards to the shelf for Riverside Dene. It is a tremendous achievement to secure five awards in only two months and demonstrates the sheer impact the regeneration is having on the surrounding community. This has been a challenging project but one in which we are very privileged to be involved.”
Wates Living Space was also recently named Contractor of the Year at the 2011 Housing Excellence Awards.
