Pupils Get a First Look at Waitrose Bracknell
12 July, 2011
Bracknell Regeneration Partnership (BRP) and Wates Retail hosted a group of 60 pupils from Binfield school who were looking to gain an insight in to how the construction industry works.
The pupils, who are currently studying sustainability, visited the Waitrose site in Bracknell. Once kitted up with hard hats they were given a guided tour of the site, giving them a chance to see how a live site works and what machinery is used.
After the site tour the pupils were treated to a presentation on Monster Machines in the construction industry, as well as taking part in their own construction test to build the tallest building out of a deck of cards.
Site Manager Grant Cowley who organised the project said 'It was brilliant to see the children taking part in and enjoying the activities that took place. The trip provided them with a great opportunity to see examples of sustainable building in operation and we were really pleased to be able to show them the progress of the future Waitrose store.'
Helen Barnett, Marketing Manager for the BRP, who also attended the day said, 'The children all seemed to have a fantastic time, and I’m sure there are some budding construction workers and engineers amongst the pupils.'
A second visit is currently being arranged towards the end of the project to give the pupils another chance to be part of the journey of the 'Creation of Waitrose'.
