Problem Solving at Inkerman House
9 February, 2011
Fifteen stories of link bridge specialist glazing have recently been completed by Wates Living Space on the Inkerman House project in Newtown Birmingham.
One of the largest tower blocks in Birmingham City Councils stock, built above a busy shopping centre, it has suffered over the years with vandal damage to the multiple glazed screens linking the lift and staircase core to the main building. Access to replace the damaged glazing was always going to be a costly option and the disruption to the regular trading of the shopping centre needed to be reduced to a minimum.
The solution was provided by Wates Living Space sub contractor E1 Glazing Ltd whose patent glazing design fulfilled the client’s key drivers. The 15 week high profile/ high-risk project was delivered on time with no complaints or accidents and below the client’s financial target. All of which contribute to another successful project that ticks all the boxes for both client and end user.
Daniel Camp from the Housing Department at Birmingham's City Council commented on the project expressing how, “Partnering and collaborative working practices resulted in a technically and logistically difficult project being successfully delivered by the partners involved whilst fully addressing the issues of safety, design, programme and financial constraints. I am very pleased with the end result.”
