Home secretary launches regeneration works
29 November, 2011
Home Secretary Theresa May joined councillors and other local stakeholders to celebrate the start of regeneration works at Maidenhead’s Kidwells estate.
One Housing Group is redeveloping the Kidwells estate, where existing housing falls short of the Government’s Decent Homes Standard, to provide 204 new high quality homes, including 75 homes for affordable rent, nine for shared ownership and 120 for private sale and rent.
Home Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities, Theresa May, added: “I'm pleased to be able to mark the start of this important redevelopment. I know there has been a lot of discussion and consideration about what the new buildings should be like and I hope that when the work is finished residents will see a real improvement and will see that the disruption has been worth it.”
Work has now started on the first phase of the project, which will provide 84 new homes by October 2012. Works are being carried out by Wates Living Space and are taking place over three phases to allow residents to continue to minimise the disruption caused to existing residents. Final completion is scheduled for 2015.
Residents will benefit from new outdoor communal areas such as a children’s playground, communal area for social activities and landscaped gardens.
Jonny Wates, Director of Wates Group, said: “we are delighted to be delivering this exciting scheme providing much needed affordable housing in Maidenhead. We are proud to be working once again with One Housing Group and the local community to deliver a development that will make a lasting difference to the local area.”
