Gym dedicated in honour of soldiers killed in Afghanistan
11 July, 2011
A newly built gym at Great Sankey High School has been dedicated to two of its former pupils who died serving their country in Afghanistan last summer.
The project was initiated by Kevin Duke of Wates Retail, a former student at the school. The school jumped at the chance of renovating space at the back of the sports hall as part of Wates annual Community Day.
The Wates Gym room dedication to Private Tom Sephton and Marine Steven Birdsall was officially unveiled last week at the Barrowhall Lane school.
Andy Gee, head of PE, said: "Having this additional space will not only enhance the teaching and learning of our students but will also benefit the whole community who can access the facility in the evening."
