Considerate construction praised at new Campsmount School

13 July, 2011

The contractor behind the construction of the new £10.7m Campsmount Technology College in Doncaster has been commended for going above and beyond in its respect for the community.

During an inspection from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), Wates Construction shone in its ongoing delivery of the new secondary school, which is being overseen by Doncaster Council’s school rebuilding team.

Assessors praised the site for its outstanding health and safety procedures and consideration for the environment. Ensuring working hours do not disturb the site’s neighbouring residents and maintaining full residential access to the shared access road, Wates also scored full marks for being ‘A Good Neighbour’.

The inspection followed an open evening at the school, hosted by Wates in partnership with the scheme’s architect, CPMG, to which students, parents and the wider community were invited to review the progress being made on site.

Dave Price, Business Unit Director for Wates Construction, Yorkshire, commented: "Construction at Campsmount is going well and we’re delighted that the CCS report has commended our efforts to remain considerate of our surroundings. It remains a priority for Wates to keep the community engaged in the progress of the project, whilst also maintaining the well-being of our neighbours and ensuring disturbance is kept to an absolute minimum."

Peter Davies, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “The glowing tributes made about Wates Construction, the council’s contractor for the new Campsmount Technology College, are extremely pleasing. Everyone working on this project should be rightly proud of the progress made and how they have gone about it. Everything is on track for the new school and its superb facilities to be open next year.”

The Considerate Constructors Scheme aims to improve the image of construction, assessing sites against the scheme’s Site Code of Considerate Practice to encourage contractors to go above and beyond standard industry requirements.

The new Campsmount Technology College is being delivered by Doncaster Council’s school rebuilding team, with support from The Department for Education (DfE) and is due for completion in April 2012.
